One of the most difficult aspects of cancer treatments is the encouraging news tempered by discouraging news tempered by an unanticipated side effect and the resulting roller coaster of emotions that accompany this period of perpetual adjustment. For all those dealing with a cancer diagnosis in this congregation, I ask that we pray that they are held in the arms of our Lord for comfort, strength and encouragement.

In September I asked for prayers for my brother in law Mark who had just received a lung cancer diagnosis. Their family was overwhelmed by the 104 prayers that were offered for Mark. God bless you Church! It has been an up and down journey for Mark and his family, but they were generally encouraged and optimistic. On Thursday we learned that, as a side effect of his chemo, Mark has contracted a very rare blood cancer that is incurable and was given a prognosis of months to a year life span. This has been devastating to our entire family.

The young daughter of my very dear friends has received a cancer diagnosis. Please pray that this little girl feels comfort and security in the love of her family and our loving God as she makes her way through this difficult journey. Please pray for her parents and other loved ones that they may feel the embrace of the Lord surrounding them in this time and that they know they can try to unburden their fear by giving it over to the Lord.
